The MRISJ offers BSU students the opportunity to build social justice skills and knowledge through civic engagement, direct service and critical reflection. The experience is student-led and explores a variety of social justice issues, and the ways students can take individual and collective action to make advance social justice. Activities will include advocacy, education and service.
 

What is Alternative Break?

BSU student Team Leaders, along with BSU faculty or staff serving as Learning Partners, work to prepare participants for the week-long experience through a series of pre-trip meetings that include team-building exercises, issue-specific education and critical reflection. The week-long experience has been redesigned to offer more flexibility for students.

2024 Alternative Break

We are excited to announce the return of our Alternative Break Program in Spring 2024!

This year MRISJ is excited to offer three Alternative Break experiences. Host sites include the (Southeastern, MA), the (Selma, AL) and the (Washington, D.C.).

The student Team Leaders, along with faculty and staff serving as Learning Partners, will prepare participants for the week-long experience through a series of pre-trip meetings that include team-building exercises, issue-specific education and critical reflection.

The week-long experience is free for students and offers flexible options for both commuter and resident students.

Dates: March 3-9, 2024
