Dr. Keith Lewinstein

Keith Lewinstein has been a member of BSU’s History Department since 2003, where he has taught courses in all periods of Islamic and Middle Eastern history. By training, he is a historian of the early Islamic world whose work in the past has focused on Islamic sectarian movements.  His research on that topic may be found, among other places, in the Journal of the American Oriental Society, The Bulletin of the School of Oriental and African Studies, and Studia Islamica.  His current interest is in medieval Qur’an commentaries, and in particular their treatment of material that intersects with the Bible and with Jewish and Christian writing.
