A Message From the Dean
Welcome to BSU’s Bartlett College of Science and Mathematics, home to the departments of Biology; Chemistry; Computer Science; Geography; Geology; Mathematics; Physics, Photonics, and Optical Engineering and the Center for the Advancement of STEM Education (CASE).
Our student-centered faculty and staff are the heart of our college. Everything we do is viewed through the lens of “how will this benefit our students?” Teaching is our passion and craft, as are continual contributions to our respective disciplines. Our goal is to help BSU students learn and unleash their potential – whether it be going to teach in K-12, work in industry, or further their education in graduate school. We accomplish this goal by offering relevant courses and majors, mentoring in and outside of the classroom, connecting students with internships and opportunities like studying abroad, engaging students in scholarly research, and continuing our racial and social justice work.
We are housed in the Dana Mohler-Faria (DMF) Science and Mathematics Center, a state-of-the-art science and mathematics building built in 2012. Students use cutting edge equipment that others may only have access to in graduate school. They have ample space to collaborate with others in labs and in shared study spaces and our small classes make it easier for students, faculty, and staff to connect and build a community. DMF was designed to put science and mathematics on display and is a resource not just for BSU, but also for regional K-12 students who take part in CASE programs throughout the year.
A STEM degree from BSU can prepare you for the next phase of your life. I encourage you to reach out to learn more about what we offer: come take a tour, email or call a specific department if you have any questions, or peruse our web pages. We look forward to hearing from you and hopefully welcoming you to our community of learners.

BSU is committed to hiring and supporting diverse faculty. One way we are working toward this goal is through a National Science Foundation grant supported alliance with Framingham State University and Worcester State University to develop, implement, and institutionalize an equity-minded model for advancing early career STEM faculty who are members of AGEP populations: African Americans, Hispanic Americans, American Indians, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, and Native Pacific Islanders.
