Undergraduate Degrees and Minors in Geography

Learn More About Our World: Pursue ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø’s Geography Undergraduate Degrees

What do location and landscape tell us about the world?

ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø’s Department of Geography offers four Bachelor of Geography degrees and three minors to help you to gain a greater understanding of how all of us affect where species flourish, our climate and landforms.

Throughout your geography undergraduate coursework, you’ll look at Earth’s landscape to examine some of our most pressing problems, including climate change, disease outbreaks and urban expansion. Your bachelor’s degree in geography or geography-related minor will help you gain the tools and techniques to see — and describe — our world in the context of place.

Learn from experts with real-world experience

Faculty who lead BSU’s geography, GIS and urban studies undergraduate coursework are teacher-practitioners with professional experience working for government agencies, nonprofit organizations and private companies. These individuals push the boundaries of the discipline through research in areas such as soil erosion, urban revitalization, water quality, weather sensors and even how coffee affects the environment.

Top-notch facilities to help you succeed

BSU’s Bachelor of Geography students perform biological, chemical and physical analyses of soils, water and more in well-equipped facilities, such as labs for our GIS students, physical geography labs, a wind tunnel or iGlobe, which displays real-time data and images. You’ll have tools to develop your knowledge and skills and conduct research during your geography undergraduate program.

Get hands on outside the classroom

Whether you choose environmental planning or our urban studies undergraduate program — or something in between — you’ll have the chance to complete a field experience, internship, research project or study abroad experience. Go outside the classroom and pursue a passion that interests you.

Small classes help you get big results

Small classes are a priority in BSU’s geography program. Your classes will rarely have more than 20 students and our student-to-faculty ratio is 6-to-1, which is low compared to other universities with geography programs. That means throughout your Bachelor of Geography program, you’ll learn alongside faculty members who know your interests and can help guide you toward experiences that will help you achieve your career goals.

Receive the support and guidance to thrive

If you’re enrolled in one of our geography, GIS or urban studies undergraduate programs, you’ll have a faculty mentor to help guide you along your academic and career path.

Study on a schedule that works for you

When looking at universities with geography programs, remember that BSU has had a bachelor’s degree in geography for more than 180 years. What we’ve learned in that time is that you need a flexible learning experience, and that’s why, at BSU, you can pursue courses as a full- or part-time student.
