Kevin D. Curry, PhD
Professor
Water Access Lab Coordinator

Originally from Long Island City, New York, I spent my formative years growing up in Rhinebeck, New York exploring streams, fishing and hiking whenever I had free time. This catalyzed my interests in biology and later fresh water ecology and fisheries. I was fortunate to be able to do my undergraduate work at Central College in Pella, Iowa and be mentored by a Dr. John Bowles. His enthusiasm for natural history was infectious and I spent several years studying bats and crawling through caves in Iowa and Yucatan with him. This experience opened doors for graduate study in fisheries at the University of Arizona and eventually, work in aquatic ecology at Purdue University. Teaching as an instructor at Purdue fueled my desire to return to undergraduate teaching which led to opportunities in Maine and Massachusetts and since 1994 in the Department of Biological Sciences at Ƶ. Most of my work at BSU has been focused on mentoring undergraduate researchers to explore streams and dragonflies, help educators use watersheds to promote math and science exploration and most recently working with Water for Cambodia and BSU to provide biosand water filters to villages in Cambodia, lead a winter study tour for BSU students to learn about the importance of water in Cambodia, as well as teach Cambodian students about caring for their water resources.
