Through internships, students have the opportunity to gain essential work experience prior to graduation. They can experience firsthand the excitement of professional dance companies and make valuable professional connections that lay the groundwork for future success.

Undergraduate Research
Under the guidance of our highly respected faculty members, dance students at BSU have completed independent research projects ranging from the creation of new choreography and the restaging of classic works to archival research related to the history of dance. Students interested in performance and choreography have the opportunities to present work at regional and national conferences, such as the American College Dance Conference and the National Dance Education Organization Conference. As part of their senior coursework, students partner with regional nonprofit organizations to gain real-world experiences and skills. Students also partner with the community to teach dance for diverse populations. As part of a teaching methods courses, dance students learn research and presentation skills and present at the university’s BSU Research Symposium.

Honors
Dance students may push themselves to earn honors in a number of ways. Students may be eligible to participate in the university Honors Program, a dance department honors program and the National Honors Society for Dance Art (NHSDA).
Dance Student Organizations and Clubs
The BSU National Dance Education Organization Student Chapter promotes dance education to the university community, sponsors the popular “Day of Dance” event and identifies educational and research opportunities to further enhance student learning. The student chapter also creates opportunities to connect with professionals in the dance community beyond university walls. Other student organizations include the Dance Team, Refined Movement, BSU Irish Steppers, Urban Renegades, Hip Hop Club/Kinetic Edge and Rhythm Invasion.
