Beyond the Classroom

Internships

In addition to our academic programs, we offer undergraduate students a range of internship, research and field study opportunities. Internships provide invaluable hands-on experience for students seeking to prepare themselves for employment upon graduation. With many governmental agencies and environmental-based research and consulting firms in the state, students have a diverse range of opportunities to choose from.

Undergraduate Research

Geological Sciences faculty are actively engaged in both laboratory and field-study research; the department is committed to providing undergraduate students the opportunity to perform research with a faculty mentor. Students may have the opportunity to present their work at professional conferences organized by both regional and national geologic organizations. In recent years, students have presented their research at conferences hosted by leading professional societies in the field, including the American Geophysical Union and the Geological Society of America. These experiences help propel our students into rewarding careers and excellent graduate programs.
