Community Service

MRISJ organizes opportunities for students to engage with their community. Trained students and staff facilitate service projects on campus and organize trips to local organizations in our surrounding communities.

We encourage members of the ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø community to become life-long engaged citizens in our local, regional, national and global communities. Our mission is to provide students with a variety of volunteer and community engagement opportunities in the Southeastern Massachusetts area and beyond.

We serve as a resource for students, staff, and faculty by connecting them to meaningful service opportunities in local and national communities. Through education and reflection, we guide students as they strengthen connections to their personal and professional development.

On-Campus Engagement

There are events held on campus to build community among students, staff and faculty through intentional conversation, action and service activities that focus on various social justice topics throughout the year. These may be guided do-it-yourself projects or collaborations with other departments or student groups.

Annual Events

Throughout the year, we offer opportunities for BSU community members and regional partners to serve alongside each other during National Days of Service and annual campus events. These events aim to encourage volunteerism and enhance connections to the community.

9/11 Day of Service & Remembrance

This nationwide event was established to inspire citizens to engage in service as a tribute to all the lives that were affected on September 11, 2001. This annual event offers meaningful ways to give back and reflect on the service of others.

MLK Day of Service

ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø honors the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by coming together to serve others for the greater good of the community. Each year, people of all backgrounds and ages come together in celebration of Dr. King's legacy by turning community concerns into citizen action through volunteer projects, community dialogues, and learning opportunities.

Earth Day

Earth Day is an annual, international event held in April to demonstrate support for environmental protection. Each year students, staff and faculty join MRISJ for a large-scale, off-campus service project to bring awareness to the environmental justice movement.
